Be a copycat

Aaron, aged 14, was different to his classmates. He looked, sounded and behaved differently. He eventually worked out how to look like them. He began dressing like them (his shirt hung out), sat next to them at lunchtime, and talked about sport (like most boys do). His advice: 'If you don't have the confidence to stand out, find ways to blend in with your peers or you could look like a target.'

You can copy the way popular, assertive children behave in social and difficult situations. Check the feedback to make sure you are improving. Look at movies and television shows to see how confident people behave: observe their appearance, clothes, hairstyle, voice, body language and ability to confront bullies.
