Determinants Of Father Involvement

The importance of examining the determinants of father involvement stems from the view that the paternal role is less culturally scripted and determined than the maternal role and few clear role models for defining fatherhood exist (Daly, 1993; Marsiglio, 1993). It is assumed that a multifactor approach to father involvement is necessary because a variety of factors determines the degree of father involvement with children. It is useful to distinguish individual, familial, and societal levels of analysis in assessing the determinants of father involvement with children (Doherty, Kouneski, andErikson, 1998; Parke, 1996).
