1. Model and express opinions and expectations that give the child a positive message about work, academic excellence, and the value of achievement and lifelong learning.

2. Support and cooperate with the child's other parent to provide a united front when dealing with behaviors, demands, and social, emotional, and academic needs.

3. Implement techniques of positive discipline that set limits, enhance self-esteem, and promote independent functioning in the gifted/ talented child.

4. Maintain an adult leadership position in the family and grant the child age-appropriate responsibilities and privileges.

5. Teach the child work and study skills that enhance academic success, and promote behavioral and social responsibility.

6. Cooperate with the school to develop academic strategies that encourage the gifted/talented child to develop full potential.
