The growing body of literature on the specificity of autobiographical recall is important to the study of trauma and autobiographical memory functioning. As mentioned earlier, overgeneral autobiographical memory, first reported by Williams and Broadbent (1986), refers to autobiographical memory reports that are categorical in nature and lacking in detail and vividness. Such overgeneral autobiographical memory has been found in individuals with a wide range of psychological disorders (e.g., major depression, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, acute stress disorder Rubin, Feldman, & Beckham, 2004 Wessel, Merckelbach, & Dekkers, 2002). The opposite of overgeneral memory is memory specificity.
Schools cannot be expected to counsel severely depressed, distressed, difficult or disturbed children and dysfunctional families. Such cases need to be referred after a few months to psychologists, psychiatrists or other mental health professionals. Unfortunately, stigma, professional fees, denial, pride and false hope stop many parents seeking professional help. However, for parents who outlay hundreds of dollars on electronic 'blah blah' and holidays, the price is negligible compared to having a happy, socially confident kid. Besides, bullying can cause severe anxiety disorders and depression. Parents need to regard it as a medical danger, and respond accordingly when their child is affected. Ideally, schools should insist upon referral for external counselling when necessary and fund these sessions where possible, or find alternative sources of funding for parents on limited incomes, e.g. crimes compensation, child guidance clinics.

Not only are attitudes important but personality is an important correlate of father involvement as well. Jain et al. (1996) found that in their study of fathers and their male toddlers, progressive fathers (caregivers, playmates and teachers) were less anxious, hostile and irritable than traditional fathers (disengaged or disciplinarian fathers).
Once you establish proper eye contact, you automatically stand straighter, breathe more oxygen and become less anxious. Your voice has more room to resonate in your chest, so you sound louder. You look more confident. If eye contact is unacceptable in your culture, then find out what else you can do to check out who is friendly and who is not, and how to feel safe e.g. check hand movements - are they relaxed (nice) or tense (nasty) You need to practise until you can do this naturally.
