Mom had the kids (8,8, and 4 at the time) journal for two years. Although the family is Jewish, there is very little reference to or reliance on religious ideas. Quite simply, there is no other book like this. Powerful, moving, compelling. Age 8+.

Romain, Trevor. What on Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies? (Minneapolis: Free Spirit, 1999). Honest, compassionate, original. Highly recommended by grief therapists. Ages 9-12.
