Figures show that American youth are displaying intolerant actions at alarming rates and at younger and younger ages. Researchers say that most hate crimes are committed by youth younger than age nineteen, and youthful hatred has become all too common in our schools. Consider these troubling facts:
• Researchers from Northeastern University surveyed thirty Massachusetts high schools and found that one-third of students reported that they had been victims of one or more hate-based crimes.
• The Review of Higher Education estimated that each year, at least 1 million bias-motivated incidents take place on American college campuses.
